An Addison woman charged with slashing the throat of her 3-year-old son initially told police two masked intruders attacked her and the youngster in their apartment, DuPage County authorities said.
But when police questioned Sameera Samreen’s injured son about his 2-1/2-inch long neck wound, he told a different story.
“He said his mommy cut him,” prosecutor Anne Therieau said Thursday during a bond hearing for the 28-year-old Samreen, who was hit with new charges that include attempted murder and armed violence.
Samreen – who authorities said also slashed her own neck before injuring her son – was taken into custody after Judge Blanche Fawell raised her bail to $400,000.
Prosecutors outlined new details about the bizarre March 31 stabbings, including disclosing that Samreen had been arrested a day earlier for shoplifting and told friends she missed her family and was upset her former husband was remarrying.
Though she initially denied harming the boy, Samreen later told police she first slashed her own throat and one of her wrists with a seven-inch-long kitchen knife, then held her son on her lap and slashed his neck, Therieau said.
